The Government of India has launched the Retired Sportsperson Empowerment Training (RESET) Programme, an ambitious initiative designed to enhance the employability of retired athletes and enable them to continue contributing to the sports ecosystem.

Announced by the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, this program is a strategic effort to address the challenges sports persons face after their competitive careers end.

The RESET Programme aims to provide retired athletes with opportunities for career development, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to transition smoothly into new professional roles within the sports industry. The initiative offers training, internships, and placement assistance, creating a pathway for sportspersons to remain active in the sporting community as administrators, mentors, or other professionals supporting sports development.

Key Features of the RESET Programme:

Comprehensive Training: The programme offers tailored training courses that focus on enhancing leadership, management, and technical skills, providing retired athletes with the tools they need to succeed in various sectors of the sports industry.

Internship Opportunities: Sportspersons will also have access to internship programs that provide hands-on experience, allowing them to apply the skills they’ve acquired during training in real-world settings.

Placement Assistance: One of the most significant aspects of the RESET Programme is its job placement assistance, which aims to bridge the gap between retirement and new career opportunities. This service will connect participants with potential employers across the sports ecosystem, including federations, sports academies, and sports management firms.

Eligibility Criteria:

The programme is open to retired sportspersons who have represented India in international competitions and medal winners in national and international events. In addition to athletes, the RESET Programme will also benefit coaches and support staff who have made significant contributions to Indian sports. The government hopes to ensure a holistic approach to sports development by including these groups.

Application Process:

Eligible candidates can apply for the RESET Programme through the official website of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The application deadline has been set for November 15, 2024, giving retired sports persons ample time to submit their applications and secure a place in the programme.

As per Economic Times reports, this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that retired sports persons remain integral to the sports ecosystem in India, not just as former athletes but as active participants who can share their expertise and continue to influence future generations of talent.
