To bolster India’s cybersecurity infrastructure, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has unveiled a cutting-edge Cyber Security Centre to address the growing challenges in the field of digital security. With an initial funding of ₹20 crore from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the centre is set to become a premier hub for research, innovation, and industry collaboration.
As per the Hindustan Times, the centre aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical industry needs, developing cutting-edge technologies to combat critical cybersecurity threats. Among the key areas of focus are Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for cybersecurity applications, security for the Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber-Physical Systems, Quantum Computing, and next-generation network security, including 5G and 6G.
Industry giants like IBM, Microsoft, and HCL have pledged their support to the centre, contributing resources and expertise to foster a more robust cybersecurity ecosystem. The collaboration between IIT Madras and these tech leaders is expected to drive innovation, promote indigenous cybersecurity solutions, and help build a highly skilled workforce to handle evolving cyber threats.
