The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is facing mounting criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over claims that no new colleges have been established in Delhi in the last ten years. Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva has slammed the ruling party, accusing it of neglecting the city’s higher education sector, despite its touted "world-class education model."

During a press conference, Sachdeva revealed that the 12 existing colleges inherited from previous administrations have been left in a state of disrepair.  According to the BJP leader, the AAP government has failed to back its ambitious claims with action.

According to Business Standard reports, Sachdeva quickly drew attention to the government’s alleged budget mismanagement, stating that while AAP boasts of a profit budget, it has not adequately allocated funds for education.

Accusing the government of staging press conferences to create the illusion of progress, Sachdeva alleged that college funds are released in instalments, masking the real issues plaguing the education sector. The BJP demands greater accountability from the AAP government for its apparent failure to improve college infrastructure or establish new institutions.

The claims have sparked outrage among parents, students, and educators alike and have cast a shadow over Delhi’s education policies. The issue is expected to dominate discussions in the upcoming Delhi Assembly sessions, with the BJP set to push the Kejriwal government for answers.

As of now, the AAP has not issued a response to the BJP’s allegations. However, political analysts believe this controversy could escalate into a major talking point in the months ahead, especially as the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections draw near.
