In a landmark update for engineering aspirants across India, IIT Delhi has announced significant changes to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025. Essential modifications include a cap on the number of attempts and revised eligibility criteria, reshaping the entry requirements for one of the country’s most competitive exams.
One of the most striking changes is the restriction on the number of attempts. Candidates will now have a maximum of three attempts to clear JEE Advanced. Previously, students had unlimited attempts, enabling them to try multiple times over the years. This change aims to encourage students to focus their preparation within a limited timeframe, fostering greater diligence and reducing the practice of repeated attempts.
The revised eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025 introduce new conditions around age, qualifying exams, and minimum academic performance: Only candidates born on or after October 1, 2004, are eligible to apply. Candidates must have completed Class 12 or an equivalent examination in 2023, 2024, or 2025. General category candidates must secure at least 75% in aggregate in their Class 12 exams, while SC, ST, and PwD candidates require at least 65%. Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and one language subject to qualify.
Despite these eligibility updates, the structure of JEE Advanced will remain the same as in previous years, comprising two papers:
- Paper 1: Covers Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, lasting three hours and worth 180 marks.
- Paper 2 Also includes Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, lasting three hours with a maximum of 180 marks.
The tentative schedule for JEE 2025 includes the JEE Main in January 2025, followed by JEE Advanced on May 19, 2025. Online applications are expected to open in February and close in March 2025. Details regarding registration fees and other formalities will be released closer to the application period.
A preparatory rank list will be introduced for SC/ST candidates to ensure better representation. Additionally, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will manage seat allocation for qualifying candidates, ensuring a smooth and transparent process.
These reforms mark a significant overhaul of JEE Advanced, emphasising a streamlined process and heightened standards. As students and coaching centres gear up for the upcoming changes, all eyes are on the 2025 exam, which promises a more focused approach to admissions in India’s premier engineering institutions.
