Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Women's Wing Unveils Four-Year Program to Empower Women in Bihar

The women's wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and the Girls Islamic Organisation (GIO) in Bihar are quite busy making efforts to spread the importance of ethical education and empowerment of women among communities. Convinced that education will be truly effective if it has a moral base, the organisations insist on moving beyond minimum literacy to develop a healthy and balanced society.

In the opinion of the groups, the increasing trend of unbridled freedom is leading to moral deterioration, and their work is meant to counter this by imparting values and social responsibility. These women's groups have been teaching life skills and moral values to individuals of all faiths and backgrounds since 1948.

Organised by learned and vibrant women like Dr Jebaish Firdous, Shazia Ahsan, Dr. Nikhat Parveen, Khadija Khatoon, Ayesha Tasneem, and Shahmina Rehman, they are functional in several districts of Bihar. During the pandemic of COVID-19, the organizations offered vital assistance, such as medical relief, distribution of food, monetary assistance, and even blood donations.

Their ongoing four-year strategic plan centres on educating women regarding their responsibilities and rights, self-defense training, domestic violence, and self-development. Promoting communal harmony is also important to them. Events are arranged regularly in schools, colleges, and coaching institutions to create awareness on important dates and topics.

The organizations also provide financial help through Jamaat-e-Islami Hind's Baitulmal, especially for women in need. Showing concern regarding the moral effect of misuse of the internet, particularly by young girls, they promote firmly ethical education as a basis for individual and social development.
