In the memory of Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah, the nonagenarian who was the doyen of Assam's media, culture, sports and entrepreneurship, The Assam Tribune Group has inaugurated two prestigious fellowships to shape the next crop of culture and media professionals.
R.G. Baruah Fellowship in Cultural Studies will promote Assam's diverse cultural heritage in creative expression and research. Postgraduate students, research scholars, early-career researchers, and cultural practitioners based in Assam are eligible to apply for the fellowship, with financial support of ₹50,000 and expert mentorship offered. Disciplines covered include Art, Craft, Performing Arts, Folklore, Cuisine, Rituals & Ceremonies, Clothing etc. The initiative encourages inclusive access, especially by marginalized groups and individuals with special needs.
R.G. Baruah Fellowship in Media is meant to encourage excellence in journalism to allow independent and budding journalists from the Northeast. The fellowship supports independent journalists with a grant of ₹50,000 and mentoring, encouraging quality reporting in domains like Environment, Public Health, Gender and DEI, Social Sector and Small Enterprise, Communities, Empowerment. Mass communication students, field reporters, and digital or print media practitioners can apply.
Both fellowships are open to candidates aged between 21 and 30 years. The application must be made with a project proposal, two original works, references, and a statement of purpose. Application closes on May 25, 2025.
