A student was killed and four girls injured when a 52-seater bus owned by Haryana Roadways overturned while taking a sharp turn at full speed near Rajli village in Hisar district today.
The victim is Khushi Mohammad, 20 years old, of Rajli. His father works for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The bus, with an occupancy capacity of 52, was said to have carried about 65 passengers when the accident happened.
The driver made a wrong turn and steered the bus off the road, making the bus turn over, eyewitnesses quoted.
A complaint was lodged against driver Rajkumar under Sections 106 (death caused by negligence) and 281 (Rash driving or riding along a public road) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita by Abhishek, a native of Rajli.
Abhishek, a first-year ITI student, accused that his cousin Khushi Mohammad was going to Hisar for coaching classes. Abhishek blamed the driver for rash driving and driving at a very high speed. Even though the driver made a few short stops to decrease the speed, as the passengers requested, the driver supposedly rejected their appeal. It rode on Badopatti Road, some 2 km from Rajli, when the driver tried turning back again by taking half the cycle onto the road. The vehicle skidded on one wheel, and the cycle overturned.
Khushi Mohammad was pinned underneath the vehicle. Though he was evacuated using a JCB machine, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the spot. Other travelers were hurt.
