In response to the University Grants Commission's (UGC) latest directive, educational institutions are urged to strictly adhere to the prescribed academic calendar.

The UGC emphasizes that maintaining an academic calendar is vital for ensuring the quality of teaching, learning, and research and providing clear guidance on planned events for all stakeholders, particularly students.

Citing the UGC (Minimum Standards of Instruction for the Grant of the First Degree through Formal Education) Regulations, 2003, universities are reminded that classes for first-year students, excluding those in professional courses, must commence no later than the first week of August. For students in their second year and beyond, classes should begin by the third week of July. Additionally, all course results must be declared by the final week of June.

While there is some flexibility for professional courses, allowing up to a two-week delay in the commencement of classes for second-year students and beyond, this is contingent upon the necessity of project work, summer schools, internships, and similar professional obligations.

Furthermore, it is mandated that universities publicly announce their academic calendars at the outset of each academic year, detailing schedules for all activities throughout the year. This includes not only academic events like courses and examinations but also significant dates such as degree award ceremonies. The UGC's notice underscores the importance of universities adhering to these regulations to ensure effective academic management and student welfare.
