Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two individuals concerning the NEET-UG paper leak case. The arrests in Patna on Thursday mark the first in the ongoing investigation into the scandal that has rocked one of India's most crucial medical entrance examinations.
The detainees, identified as Manish Kumar and Ashutosh Kumar, are accused of facilitating a secure venue for examinees where they were provided with leaked examination papers and corresponding answer keys. This operation allegedly occurred before the official test date, giving some candidates an unfair advantage.
The CBI has registered six First Information Reports (FIRs) with the paper leak, indicating the breadth and seriousness of the malpractice. The investigation was handed over to the CBI following widespread allegations of irregularities and demands for a thorough probe by students and stakeholders.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG), administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is a pivotal exam for admissions into medical and related courses such as MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH disciplines across both government and private institutions nationwide.
This year's NEET-UG was conducted on May 5, spanning 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 international locations. An estimated 24 lakh candidates appeared for the exam, underlining its significance in the academic landscape of India.
