Delhi University (DU) has announced a delay in the commencement of the first-year semester, now set to begin on August 16. This change, disclosed by Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh on Saturday, stems from the postponed release of the Central University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) results.

Initially, the semester was slated to start on August 1, but the delay in the publication of results has necessitated an adjustment to the academic calendar.

While the first-year students will experience a delay, Vice Chancellor Singh assured them that classes for all other semesters will proceed as planned, starting on August 1. He clarified that the postponement solely affects the first semester for courses admitting students through the CUET-UG.

"The result has not been announced, but it will impact the academic calendar for the students for the first semester in courses where admission is through CUET-UG. The semester will likely start on August 16. For other semesters, we will start the semester on August 1," Singh told ANI (Source: Hindustan Times).

Despite the ongoing concerns, DU has yet to receive any communication from the National Testing Agency (NTA), the body responsible for conducting the CUET-UG. The NTA is currently dealing with issues related to paper leak allegations involving the NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams, further contributing to the delay.

Initially, the CUET-UG results were to be released on June 30, as per the NTA's information bulletin. However, the results remain pending, affecting the admission processes for several key universities, including DU and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

The CUET-UG, held from May 15 to May 31 online and in pen-and-paper formats, is the primary admission test for undergraduate programs at 46 Central universities. The delay in announcing the results has disrupted the admission schedules of all participating institutions. DU had planned to open its phase two admissions portal by July 2 to fill 71,000 seats based on CUET-UG scores.
