Under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Andhra Pradesh government has rebranded several welfare schemes previously named after former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. This move marks a deliberate effort by the current administration to distance itself from the policies of its predecessor.

The schemes affected by the renaming include various student welfare programs, education initiatives, and healthcare services. The Naidu administration has criticised the management of these programs under the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government, claiming they were poorly handled and promising a thorough overhaul under their leadership.

Livemint reports that this decision has ignited fierce controversy, with the opposition Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) condemning the renaming as "vendetta politics." They argue that the change is a strategic attempt to erase the previous government's legacy and undermine its achievements. This has led to a heated political debate, with both sides exchanging sharp criticisms.

Despite the controversy, the Andhra Pradesh government has reassured the public that the renaming of these schemes will not impact the benefits provided to the beneficiaries. Officials emphasise that the programs will continue to operate as usual, and the focus remains on improving the services offered.

The rebranding initiative reflects a broader trend in Indian politics where new administrations seek to mark their territory by revising or renaming policies and programs of their predecessors. This move by Naidu’s government signals a clear departure from Reddy’s legacy, setting the stage for a new chapter in the state’s welfare policies.

As the political landscape continues to shift, renaming these schemes is likely to remain a point of contention and a symbol of the ongoing rivalry between Andhra Pradesh’s leading political parties.
