Assam’s cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has unveiled a major educational initiative: creating a new graduate teacher position for mathematics in state schools. This development, announced on Friday, includes adding 1,766 new posts to boost the subject's teaching staff.
Additionally, the cabinet has approved recruiting 221 third and fourth-grade positions across 11 polytechnics and two engineering colleges. The institutions will fill these positions with salaries covered by the state budget, avoiding the need for outsourcing.
During the meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati, the cabinet also approved increasing the number of constituencies for the Moran and Matak Autonomous Councils, expanding them from 22 to 27 each. This change is expected to enhance representation and governance within these councils. Furthermore, 16 Bodo community-dominated villages from Sonitpur and Biswanath districts were sanctioned in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), reflecting a move towards greater regional integration.
These decisions highlight the state’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and regional governance to foster academic growth and inclusive development in Assam.
