The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has officially launched two new Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programs at its recently established Abu Dhabi campus. Starting from the academic year 2024-25, students in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and neighbouring regions can enrol in B.Tech programs in Computer Science and Energy Engineering.
This expansion highlights IIT Delhi's commitment to delivering world-class education beyond India's borders, bringing its renowned academic rigour to a global audience.
As per TOI reports, the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Campus, a subsidiary of India's leading IIT Delhi institution, will host these new programs. The curriculum for the Abu Dhabi campus will closely mirror that of IIT Delhi's primary programs, ensuring consistency in the quality of education. However, it will also include tailored elements designed to address the specific needs of local industries in the UAE, providing students with a globally recognized and locally relevant curriculum.
Admission to these programs will be competitive, requiring candidates to have secured a minimum of 75% marks in their 10+2 or equivalent examinations (with a 65% threshold for SC/ST/PWD candidates). Selection will be based on performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main or SAT Subject Tests and may include an interview for final selection.
Professor Rangan Banerjee, the Director of IIT Delhi, expressed his excitement about the international expansion, noting the importance of providing a rigorous academic environment similar to that of the main campus in Delhi. "Our Abu Dhabi campus is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to address global challenges. They will experience the same level of academic excellence and research opportunities as offered at our Delhi campus," he stated.
