On July 30, Soladevanahalli police apprehended a 28-year-old man, Basavaraj, for allegedly molesting a nursing student. The incident unfolded when the victim, a 21-year-old BSc Nursing student from West Bengal, walked alone on a footpath at around 9 p.m.

Basavaraj, who is from Maruthi Nagar, Chikkabanavara, and originally from Kalaburagi, was employed at a medical store in Nelamangala at the time of the incident.

Using CCTV footage from the vicinity, the police could track Basavaraj’s movements and identify him. This footage and details from surrounding cameras helped them trace his vehicle registration number, which subsequently led to his arrest. Basavaraj has been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.

The arrest marks a significant development in the case, as Basavaraj has now been remanded in judicial custody. The investigation highlights the role of surveillance technology in modern policing, enabling swift action and justice in cases of public assault.
