A 22-year-old woman reportedly lost Rs 90,000 from her father's pension in a cyber fraud incident, police revealed on Monday, August 19. The woman, a student, was lured by fraudsters offering a work-from-home job opportunity with a stationery company based in Mumbai.

The scam unfolded on Saturday, August 17, when she received a call from an unknown number. The caller convinced her to transfer money for various job-related requirements, including registration fees, health insurance, and a job contract.

Believing the offer to be legitimate, the victim paid Rs 90,000 from her father's pension. However, she became suspicious after an online search about the company and discovered it was fraudulent. Realizing she had been duped, she filed a complaint with the Santacruz police. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is currently underway.

In a related development, seven individuals were arrested on Sunday, August 18, for allegedly engaging in malpractices during the ongoing police recruitment process in Thane. The arrests followed the registration of three FIRs at the Naupada, Thane Town, and Vartak Nagar police stations, where the recruitment exam centers were located. The accused were reportedly involved in attempts to manipulate the examination process. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter to determine the extent of the malpractice.
