The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is hosting the 16th International Conference on Quantum Communication, Measurement, and Computing (QCMC 2024) from August 26 to 30, marking the first event in India.
The conference, organized by the Centre for Quantum Information, Communication, and Computing (CQuICC) at IIT Madras, is at the IIT Madras Research Park.
Established in 1990, QCMC is a leading global forum for quantum science, focusing on advancements in quantum computing, communication, cryptography, and sensing. IIT Madras, Mphasis F1 Foundation, and KLA support this year's conference.
In the opening session, Ajai Chowdhury, Chairman of the National Quantum Mission, highlighted India's growing role in quantum technology. Chowdhury noted significant advancements at IIT Madras and the active involvement of approximately 600 Indian scientists and numerous startups. He revealed that over 385 proposals have been submitted to develop thematic parks dedicated to quantum technology.
IIT Madras is recognized for its leadership in quantum research through CQuICC, which specializes in quantum cryptography, sensing, information theory, and networks. The institute is crucial in advancing the National Quantum Mission, aiming to develop indigenous quantum technologies.
Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, expressed excitement about hosting QCMC 2024 in India. He emphasized the potential of quantum technologies to tackle complex problems that traditional computing cannot solve, highlighting their importance in providing scalable and efficient solutions.
