The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has recently concluded a transformative 10-day Teachers' Development Workshop under the iRISE program, designed to empower educators from classes VI to X across Uttarakhand.

This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of education in the state, equipping teachers with the tools and knowledge to foster a culture of innovation and inquiry-based learning.

The iRISE workshop, which stands for Innovation, Research, and Inquiry-based STEM Education, aimed to develop teachers into Innovation Champions within their districts. The program promoted hands-on learning and encouraged a deeper understanding of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. By introducing key concepts in STEM, process innovation, and cascade training modules, the workshop sought to transform traditional teaching methods into more dynamic and interactive approaches.

Participants in the workshop were trained to become leaders in their educational communities, focusing on nurturing innovation among students. This initiative is expected to have a ripple effect, as these teachers, now equipped with new skills and knowledge, can inspire and guide their peers and students, fostering a widespread culture of innovation throughout Uttarakhand.

India Today reports that the iRISE workshop was a collaborative effort organized with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Uttarakhand, and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune. This partnership brought together some of the brightest minds in education and innovation to ensure the program was comprehensive and impactful.

The workshop featured contributions from distinguished guests, including Prof. Naveen Kumar, Dean of Academic Affairs at IIT Roorkee, and Prof. Harinath Chakrapani, Principal Investigator of iRISE at IISER Pune. Their insights and expertise provided valuable guidance to the participating teachers, further enriching the learning experience.

This workshop is set to have a lasting impact on the educational landscape of Uttarakhand. By empowering teachers with the skills to promote inquiry-based learning and innovation, IIT Roorkee is helping to build a future where students are not only recipients of knowledge but also active contributors to science and technology. The iRISE program represents a pioneering effort to elevate the state's education standard, ensuring that young minds are nurtured and inspired to reach their full potential.

As these teachers return to their classrooms, the lessons learned from the iRISE workshop will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of students, laying the foundation for a more innovative and dynamic educational environment in Uttarakhand.
