The Chhattisgarh government has launched an interest-free loan scheme to support students from 14 districts heavily impacted by Maoist activities to foster education and counter the influence of Maoist insurgency.
This pioneering initiative seeks to provide financial assistance to the youth, encouraging them to pursue higher education and vocational training, thereby paving the way for a brighter, more stable future.
The newly introduced scheme offers financial support of up to ₹20,000 per year for five years to eligible students. Designed to promote technical and vocational education, the scheme aims to equip students with the skills necessary for better job prospects. Notably, the loans are interest-free, alleviating the financial burden on students and their families. Repayment is only required after completing their education, allowing students to focus entirely on their studies without the stress of accumulating debt.
This initiative targets explicitly 14 districts that have been deeply affected by Maoist insurgencies: Bijapur, Dantewada, Bastar, Kanker, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Rajnandgaon, Balrampur, Balod, Bemetara, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Sukma, and Surajpur. These areas have long struggled with limited access to quality education and economic opportunities, making this loan scheme a critical intervention in breaking the cycle of poverty and insurgency.
In its inaugural year, the scheme is expected to benefit over 10,000 students, significantly reducing dropout rates and encouraging higher educational attainment. By offering this financial lifeline, the Chhattisgarh government aims to deter young people from being drawn into the Maoist fold, instead motivating them to pursue educational and professional aspirations that contribute to their personal development and the broader community's progress.
