Severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall and the overflowing Ganga River has forced the closure of 76 schools across Bihar, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh, leaving several districts battling the deluge. The rising water levels have inundated vast areas, displacing thousands and leading to ongoing rescue operations.
Official reports indicate that the Ganga has breached the danger mark, submerging low-lying regions. The National and State Disaster Response Forces (NDRF and SDRF) have been deployed, with the Army placed on standby to aid in evacuation efforts.
Bihar is among the worst-affected states, with districts like Patna, Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Katihar, Siwan, Bhojpur, Buxar, and Hajipur hit hard by floodwaters. In West Bengal, Malda is facing a similar crisis, while Uttar Pradesh districts such as Fafamau (Allahabad), Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur, and Ballia are grappling with rising water levels.
As per India TV News report, the closure of schools has added to the disruptions in the affected regions. Local authorities have yet to confirm when classes will resume, with the education departments closely monitoring the situation. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted further heavy rainfall in parts of southern India and the Sub-Himalayan region, heightening concerns of worsening conditions.
With the floodwaters still rising, there is growing anxiety over the health and well-being of those displaced by the floods. Relief camps have been set up, and the government has assured that all necessary measures are being taken to address the immediate needs of the affected communities and mitigate the disaster.
