The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently held a workshop for school principals, focusing on the role of parenting in supporting students' well-being. The workshop aimed to equip principals with strategies to foster students' holistic development and address mental health challenges.
Key objectives of the workshop included building stronger relationships between parents, teachers, and students, tackling issues such as peer pressure, anxiety, and substance abuse, and developing emotional intelligence and resilience in students. The event also emphasised the importance of positive parenting practices in creating a nurturing environment for students.
The workshop featured expert sessions on parental involvement, effective communication, and conflict resolution. Panel discussions explored ways to create supportive school environments, while interactive sessions focused on mindfulness, self-awareness, and stress management. Principals also had the opportunity to share best practices from their respective CBSE-affiliated schools.
As per a Hindustan Times report, this initiative is part of CBSE’s broader effort to prioritise students' mental health and wellbeing by empowering school leaders to adopt a more collaborative approach between schools and families. "The workshop aims to sensitise principals to the critical role parents play in students' lives... We want to foster a collaborative approach to ensure students' overall wellbeing," a CBSE official noted.
More than 500 principals from CBSE-affiliated schools across India and abroad attended the event, underscoring the board’s commitment to student-centric education. CBSE also plans to conduct similar workshops and training programs for teachers and parents, further reinforcing its focus on students' emotional and mental health in the coming months.
