Delhi University saw an extraordinary turnout in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections, with over 1.45 lakh students from 52 colleges casting their votes on Friday, September 27.

This year's election featured intense competition between prominent student organisations such as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), and a coalition of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students' Association (AISA). The voting took place in two phases, with morning college students casting their ballots until 1 pm, and evening college students voting from 3 pm to 7:30 pm.

Students lined up at polling stations across the university, eager to elect their representatives for key central panel positions, including President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary. However, in a surprising turn of events, the Delhi High Court intervened, staying the counting of votes until campaign materials that defaced public property were removed, delaying the much-anticipated results.

As per a Hindustan Times report, the outcome of these elections is crucial, as it will determine the leadership of the student body at Delhi University, with the winning candidates expected to influence both academic policies and extracurricular activities on campus. Last year, the ABVP claimed three out of the four central panel positions, including the presidency. Students and political observers alike are waiting to see whether this year's results will signal continuity in leadership or usher in a change as the university faces the impact of its student government's decisions.

The announcement of the results remains on hold as the university takes steps to address the High Court's orders, leaving the future of Delhi University's student government in suspense.
