The post revealed that over 8,000 IIT graduates remain unplaced following the 2024 campus recruitment drive, with some being offered salary packages as low as ₹3.6 lakh to ₹6 lakh per annum. This marked a significant increase in unplaced students, which has doubled since last year.
As the news spread, several IITs began reaching out to their alumni for assistance in securing placements for their current batch of students. At the same time, social media platforms ignited discussions questioning whether IITians exhibit a sense of entitlement or arrogance, potentially contributing to their difficulties in the job market. Many users debated whether the prestige associated with an IIT degree still holds relevance in an increasingly competitive and evolving job landscape.
Interestingly, alternative career choices among IIT graduates are also gaining attention, with some opting to pursue entrepreneurship, spirituality, or non-traditional career paths over conventional job roles. Social media responses were varied, with one Twitter user stating, "This exposes the myth of IIT supremacy," while another Facebook commenter noted, "Arrogance has no place in any institution."
