A 14-year-old student from DAV School, Paradip Port, Odisha, stirred up a police investigation after falsely claiming he had been kidnapped. The student, Aditya Nath, fabricated the story to avoid going to school and completing his homework.
Aditya, who hails from Uchhabanandpur within Kujang police limits, missed his school bus on Monday, October 22. Instead of returning home, he concocted a tale, claiming he was abducted by people in a Scorpio SUV. He told police that a group, including a woman, asked him for water and then forcibly tied him up, gagged, and beat him before stopping for breakfast. He claimed to have escaped while they were at the canal bridge in Marsaghai, Kendrapara district, where a passerby found him and contacted his family.
Following Aditya’s apparent escape, his father, Prasant Kumar Nath, filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Kujang police station. Police teams from Kujang, Paradip Model, Paradip Lock, and Tirtol stations launched an immediate search for the alleged kidnappers, as reported in Edex Live.
However, as police began investigating, they found inconsistencies in Aditya’s story. Upon further questioning, the boy confessed that he had made up the entire story to avoid the pressures of school and homework. His father later retracted the kidnapping complaint and submitted a written statement to the police admitting that his son had lied.
Superintendent of Police Bhawani Shankar Udgata confirmed that the boy had fabricated the kidnapping story.
The incident has raised concerns about the pressures students face in school, with the police urging parents to address these issues before they escalate into such false alarms.
