Delhi High Court has made a ruling regarding the upcoming Chartered Accountancy (CA) Intermediate and Final examinations scheduled for May. On Monday, April 8, the court dismissed a plea seeking to postpone the exams, which are conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), to June 2024, after the Lok Sabha general elections.

The plea was filed by individuals who argued that the exam dates clash with the general elections, thereby preventing many candidates from exercising their right to vote. However, Justice C Hari Shankar, who presided over the case, rejected the plea, stating that the inconvenience faced by some candidates cannot justify disrupting an exam involving around 4.26 lakh aspirants.

Addressing concerns about potential logistical challenges during the elections, such as transportation and accommodation, Justice Shankar pointed out that the current situation is not comparable to the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized that postponing an exam on such a large scale due to hypothetical future issues would not be reasonable, as mentioned in report by Edex Live.

Additionally, the court clarified that the general elections are scheduled for May 7 and 13, with no exams planned for these dates or the day before. The bench also noted that measures have been taken to ensure that candidates can vote without any hindrance.

In response to these developments, it remains the responsibility of candidates to manage their schedules effectively if they wish to cast their votes. The decision by the Delhi High Court reinforces the stance of the authorities regarding the scheduling of the CA Intermediate and Final exams, dismissing the plea for postponement in light of the upcoming general elections.
