The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) to bolster railway infrastructure, safety, and operational efficiency across India. This strategic partnership aims to leverage the expertise of IIT Delhi researchers in a series of research and development (R&D) projects targeting key challenges faced by Indian Railways.
Under the MoU, faculty members from IIT Delhi's Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Management Studies will collaborate on initiatives focused on improving security, safety, scheduling, intermodal connectivity, and revenue optimization. By integrating interdisciplinary knowledge, the partnership aspires to transform Indian Railways into a safer, more efficient, and technologically advanced organization.
“This collaboration with CRIS is a significant milestone in enhancing India’s railway infrastructure,” stated Prof. Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi. The partnership aims to combine cutting-edge research with practical applications, addressing pressing issues in railway operations and enhancing the overall passenger experience.
GVL Satya Kumar, Managing Director at CRIS, expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that it aligns with CRIS’s mission to incorporate advanced technologies within Indian Railways. “With the research expertise of IIT Delhi, we anticipate significant advancements in railway operations that will ultimately benefit passengers,” he remarked.
