The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has now officially opened formal applications for its very competitive International Fellowship 2026 to assist women across the globe to further their education towards undertaking higher studies in advanced degrees in the United States and elsewhere. A full fellowship is available to non-U.S. citizen women who wish to undertake full-time Master's, Doctoral, or Postdoctoral studies at accredited U.S. institutions.

It was founded in 1917 and is AAUW's oldest and strongest programs, advancing world gender equality through education. This program will also provide five special fellowships for Graduate Women International (GWI) members to study abroad in a foreign nation outside of their home country for the 2026 cycle, if the institutions are eligible for U.S. federal student aid.

The fellowships levels are $20,000 for Master's level, $25,000 for Doctoral level, and $50,000 for Postdoctoral research level to finance education requirements, living requirements, childcare, and professional conference travel.

Applicants should hold an equivalent U.S. bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.5 and higher, and be enrolled or accepted in an accredited full-time program so as to begin the fellowship year in July 2026. The opportunity is open to women from any field of study including law, medicine, architecture, the arts, and research-based doctoral work.

They also need to provide academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, degree and GPA verification, personal statement, and (if so required) GWI membership proof. English proficiency proof is also needed unless waived.

This fellowship continues AAUW's history of investing in women's education across the globe and creating a more inclusive academic community, with a deadline of September 30, 2025, interested applicants should visit the AAUW website for full instructions and to begin the application process.
