A disturbing incident has emerged from Rajasthan's Ajmer, where a Class 12 student was reportedly barred from taking her board examination due to being a gang-rape survivor. The young girl was allegedly informed by school teachers that her presence in the school would "spoil the atmosphere" and was advised to study from home instead.
The issue came to light when the victim reached out to the Child Welfare Committee to report the discrimination she faced. According to the survivor's complaint, despite appearing for her board exams four months prior, she was denied her admit card by the school administration, thus preventing her from sitting for the examination.
Anjali Sharma, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, acknowledged the gravity of the situation and promptly intervened. She penned a letter to the District Education Officer, urging swift action against the school and ensuring that the survivor's academic pursuits were not hindered, as per reports.
Sharma revealed that the survivor had attempted to sit for her board examination in December of the previous year but was unjustly denied the opportunity. Allegedly, the school's teachers asserted that her attendance would disrupt the school's environment, compelling her to stay home instead.
In response to the outcry, Sharma disclosed that the Child Welfare Committee is collaborating with the District Legal Services Authority to provide necessary legal support to the survivor. Additionally, efforts are underway to facilitate the survivor's participation in the supplementary examination conducted by the board, despite the conclusion of the primary examination period.
