Effective April 25, schools in Lucknow catering to students from Class 1 to Class 12 will operate from 7:30 am to 1 pm. This decision aims to shield children from the scorching heat, following reports of heatstroke incidents in various regions.
The initiative, mandated by Lucknow's district magistrate, Surya Pal Gangwar, serves as a precautionary step against escalating temperatures during daylight hours. Applicable to all schools, including those under different boards and private institutions, the revised timing remains in force until further notice. District officials underscore the significance of the early morning to midday schedule in ensuring students' well-being.
Taking cues from Lucknow, numerous other districts in Uttar Pradesh are also adapting school timings to combat the heatwave. District magistrates across various regions are issuing directives to adjust schedules for government and private schools, targeting classes from nursery to Class 8. In some districts, school hours will span from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, while in others, classes will conclude by 1 pm. These proactive measures reflect a concerted effort to address health risks associated with extreme heat.
The move has garnered favourable responses from parents, who express relief over the protective measures for their children. With heatwave alerts issued in multiple states, concerns regarding students' health have heightened.
