Kanpur Medical College to Launch AI Mattresses That Call Physicians When Vitals Fall

In a path-breaking effort, GSVM Medical College in Kanpur is planning to make its patient care more efficient through new technology. The college will deploy AI-supported smart mattresses for serious patients. These smart mattresses will immediately notify doctors and nurses through an alarm the moment a patient's condition worsens, allowing instant medical attention and possibly saving lives. Importantly, the college provides treatment to patients from Kanpur and about 18 surrounding districts, helping thousands.

Code Blue Out: Alerts Now Directly to Staff

Doctors and nurses previously used the code phrase 'Code Blue' when a patient's condition rapidly fell apart. Smart mattresses now send an alarm and red alert directly to the doctor's and nurse's phone, tablet, or computer the instant a patient's condition worsens.

For example, if a patient's heart rate suddenly reaches 150, a beeping alarm comes on the screen, allowing the doctor to act in time.

Smart Mattresses To Be Installed In Batches Of 10

Dr. Sanjay Kala, principal of GSVM Medical College, stated that the installation of 10 smart mattresses, each worth about Rs 5 lakh, is under progress. The equipment will be purchased from the CSR fund. 10 mattresses will be initially deployed, and the number may be increased subsequently. GSVM would thus become the first government medical college in the state to employ this sophisticated technology.

Round-The-Clock Monitoring For Critical Patients

Dr. Kala told us that patients with serious diseases tend to have gradual internal deterioration, meaning they need constant 24-hour care. Earlier, the physicians and nurses used coordination without machinery, but with the intelligent mattresses, it will be easier to monitor and help in quicker treatment and possibly lowering mortality rates.

GSVM Medical College, which is the Bundelkhand region's largest medical school and 18 surrounding districts, has thousands of patients visited by it every day. With the addition of smart mattresses, patients now have the benefit of up-to-date care, further giving doctors the power to save lives.
