The METI Government of Japan Internship Program for 2024 is now open to international students. This fully funded internship, offered by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduates and graduate students from OECD/DAC countries to gain valuable experience in Japanese companies.
Applying for the METI internship is straightforward and accessible. There is no need for an IELTS certificate, and there is no application fee. If selected, all expenses will be covered, including round trip airline tickets, accommodation, meals, and a stipend for living expenses.
During the internship, interns will be placed in different companies in Japan. The program matches interns with host companies based on their skills, abilities, preferences, and requirements. In 2023, 94 companies hosted 107 interns, highlighting the program's popularity and success.
The financial benefits of the METI internship are substantial. In addition to covering all expenses, interns will receive a stipend of 3,000 yen per day, along with electronic devices such as laptops and mobile phones. Assistance will also be provided in obtaining a visa to enter Japan, and interns will be covered by internship insurance.
To be eligible for the internship, applicants must be citizens of OECD/DAC countries, proficient in English, and between 18 to 40 years old as of August 1, 2024. Students must provide proof of enrollment or graduation, along with a letter of recommendation from their academic advisor.
Interns have certain responsibilities, including developing an internship plan, participating in pre-training and wrap-up presentations, and submitting various documents and reports throughout the internship. Additionally, interns may have the opportunity to participate in Japanese classes if offered a permanent position at the host company.
