In a significant development for the local chess community, Taranga Banerjee, a former Hoogly district age group winner, has made impressive strides with the Bandel Chess Academy. Banerjee established the academy, which has rapidly become a prominent institution in the region’s chess scene, reflecting his deep passion for the game.

Since its inception, Bandel Chess Academy has attracted numerous students eager to benefit from Banerjee’s expertise. The academy’s impact is evident, with students like Arijit Pal and Dhrubajyoti Mondal securing top positions in district and open chess tournaments throughout 2023-2024.

On July 22, the academy’s achievements were highlighted at an in-house chess tournament held at the Saheb Bagan Yatrik Sangha Club in Chandannagar. Organized by the Aadvika Chess Foundation, the event saw participation from over 50 individuals, including several specially-abled children. 16 students notably represented Bandel Chess Academy.

The tournament featured a challenging format of seven rounds of rapid chess, each with a 25-minute time control. Despite the competitive nature of the event, Bandel Chess Academy students excelled. Aharshi Dey, Agnija Dey, and Gaurav Kumar Singh emerged victorious in their respective age groups. In the main prize categories, Saatwik Biswas secured 6th place, Arijit Pal achieved 3rd place, and Dhrubajyoti Mondal claimed the title of Champion.

The tournament timing was particularly significant, coinciding with "International Chess Day," which highlighted chess's intellectual and strategic benefits. Banerjee, who serves as both the founder and coach of Bandel Chess Academy, reaffirmed his commitment to promoting the game. He emphasized the benefits of chess, including improved concentration, logical reasoning, creativity, and memory.

The success of Bandel Chess Academy underscores Banerjee’s vision and the increasing interest in chess within the region. His efforts not only foster local talent but also inspire the next generation of chess players, demonstrating how dedication and passion can profoundly impact the community.
