The police here have filed a case against 219 'madrasas' which were receiving government assistance but did not exist in reality, police informed on Sunday.
The FIRs were filed on the basis of a complaint by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) after an investigation proved these madrasas to be non-existent.
Superintendent of Police Hemraj Meena, "219 cases have been registered in 22 police station areas of the district." The investigation, initiated in response to anomalies discovered during online entry of data on the madrasa portal, initially determined 313 madrasas were irregular.
A probe by the SIT, following a 2017 government complaint, additionally discovered that 219 of them were completely non-existent.

"Investigation was conducted in this case via EOW, where there was a charge of government funds being diverted in the name of madrasas. Government funds were taken on the strength of fake documents," Meena said.
The first FIR was lodged on February 6 at police station Kandharapur, on the basis of a complaint given by Inspector EOW Kunwar Brahma Prakash Singh.
Later, FIRs were lodged at other police stations in the district, with several cases at Kotwali, Sidhari, Rani ki Sarai, Mubarakpur, Nizamabad, and other police stations.
"The case is under investigation, action will be taken based on whatever facts emerge from the investigation," the district police chief further said.
