In a remarkable achievement that has captured the nation’s attention, sixteen-year-old Kaamya Karthikeyan has successfully summited Mount Everest, becoming the youngest Indian mountaineer to conquer the world’s highest peak from the Nepal side. This notable accomplishment was officially confirmed by the Indian Navy on Thursday, May 23.

Kaamya, a Class XII student at Navy Children School in Mumbai and the daughter of a naval officer, ascended the formidable 8,849-metre peak on May 20, alongside her father, Commander S Karthikeyan. The news, shared via a statement from a Navy spokesperson, has highlighted her as not only the youngest Indian but also the second youngest girl globally to achieve this feat from the Nepalese route.

The Indian Navy’s statement praised her determination and resilience, noting that this milestone marks her completion of six out of the seven summits in her ambitious mission to climb the highest peaks on each continent. The final challenge, Mount Vinson Massif in Antarctica, is set for December, where Kaamya aims to become the youngest girl to complete the ‘7 Summits Challenge’.

The Navy shared their congratulations on social media, highlighting Kaamya’s extraordinary accomplishment. They stated that the Indian Navy congratulates Kaamya Karthikeyan, daughter of Commander S Karthikeyan, for becoming the youngest Indian and the second youngest girl in the world to summit Mount Everest from the Nepal side. They praised her immense courage and fortitude in summiting the highest peaks on six of the seven continents. They extended their best wishes for her aspiration to summit the highest peaks of all seven continents, aiming to become the youngest girl to achieve this feat.
