The International Olympics Committee (IOC) has issued a statement addressing the controversy surrounding Algerian boxer Imane Khelif. High-profile figures, including JK Rowling, Piers Morgan, Logan Paul, and Elon Musk, have publicly questioned Khelif’s gender following her recent fight against Italian boxer Angela Carini.
The match ended in just 46 seconds, with Carini withdrawing due to concerns about her health, stating she had never felt a punch like Khelif’s.
Khelif, a cisgender woman, was previously barred from competing in the women’s world championships due to failed testosterone and gender eligibility tests. Despite her verified gender identity, the controversy has intensified, fueled by misleading claims from critics.
Rowling, for example, posted a photo of Khelif and falsely described her as a male, accusing the IOC of allowing a male boxer to compete against women. Rowling also sent a letter to the IOC alleging that the organization allowed a male athlete to ruin a female boxer’s career.
