IIT Ropar Launches AI & ML Minor Program With Masai School And NSDC

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, in collaboration with Masai School and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), has announced a new minor program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), according to a report by IANS.

This initiative aims to address the growing need for skilled professionals in emerging technologies within India. The program comprises seven comprehensive modules:

Fundamentals of prompt engineering

Introduction to machine learning

Data handling and processing

Neural networks and deep learning

Natural language processing (NLP)

Functioning of large language models (LLMs)

Capstone project

Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), emphasized the importance of integrating AI into the curriculum, highlighting the institute's commitment to equipping students with highly sought-after skills in today's job market. Tiwari underscored that this move demonstrates a proactive approach to aligning educational offerings with industry demands.

The stakeholders noted that the program is meticulously designed to provide learners with essential skills, knowledge, and industry exposure necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving tech landscape. They stressed that this initiative is a significant step towards preparing students for future technological advancements.

Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, explained that the minor program in AI and ML embodies the institute's dedication to offering students a comprehensive educational experience. He pointed out that the program blends rigorous academic study with practical, hands-on application, ensuring that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

The AI market in India is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.5% to reach $5.1 billion by 2027, driven by talent growth, according to IANS.

Prateek Shukla, Co-Founder and CEO of Masai School, remarked on the transformative nature of this educational initiative. He conveyed that the program is not only about enhancing education but also about creating a new paradigm in skill-based learning. Shukla emphasized that this effort aims to develop a dynamic talent pool poised for global success.
