72% of Indian employers plan to hire fresh graduates in second half of 2024

A recent report by TeamLease EdTech indicates a robust hiring outlook for fresh graduates in India. According to the 'Career Outlook Report HY2' for July-December 2024, 72% of employers intend to recruit new talent during the latter half of this year.

This marks a 4% increase from the first half of 2024 and a 7% rise from last year, reflecting a gradual improvement in the job market for freshers.

The survey, conducted among 603 companies nationwide from April to June 2024, highlights a notable demand for fresh graduates across various sectors. E-commerce and technology startups, engineering and infrastructure, and retail are identified as the top industries with significant hiring intentions. Geographically, Bengaluru tops the list with 74% of employers planning to hire freshers, followed by Mumbai at 60% and Chennai at 54%.

The report reveals that full-stack developers, SEO executives, digital sales associates, and UI/UX designers are among the most sought-after positions. Employers are particularly interested in candidates with skills in cybersecurity, cloud computing, and data analytics.

Shantanu Rooj, founder and CEO of TeamLease EdTech, described the increase in hiring intent as an encouraging sign of growing confidence among employers. He also underscored the need for educational programs to evolve in alignment with industry demands. According to the report, 70% of employers recommend enhancing curricula with experiential learning, while 62% advocate for stronger industry-academia partnerships to bridge the gap between academic training and market needs.
