In a shocking development, two doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, were among five individuals arrested for allegedly facilitating cheating during the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test for MDs. The arrests were made on Sunday evening, police officials confirmed.
The accused were apprehended from a car near Barrage Road in Rishikesh. Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh provided detailed insights into the case. The arrested individuals include Dr. Ajit Singh (44) from Jind in Haryana, Dr. Vaibhav Kashyap (23) from Patiala in Punjab, Aman Siwach (24) from Rohtak in Haryana, and Vipul Gaura (31) and Jayant (22), both hailing from Hisar in Haryana.
According to SSP Singh, the group was involved in assisting three candidates appearing for the MD entrance exam at a center in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. They used an instant messaging app to facilitate the cheating. Photographs of the question paper, taken with a mobile phone, were sent to the doctors, who then provided the answers via the same app.
The group had struck a deal worth Rs 50 lakh with the candidates. They had already received an advance payment of Rs 25 lakh, with the remaining amount to be paid upon the publication of the exam results. The two doctors, Dr. Ajit Singh and Dr. Vaibhav Kashyap, were promised Rs 2 lakh each for solving the question paper.
During the arrest, the police seized three tablets, three mobile phones, two medical books, and the car used by the accused. This evidence is expected to play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation.
This incident raises serious concerns about the integrity of competitive examinations and the lengths to which some candidates might go to secure admission. The involvement of medical professionals, who are expected to uphold high ethical standards, adds another layer of gravity to the situation. AIIMS Rishikesh, a prestigious institution known for its stringent academic standards, is now embroiled in a scandal that questions the credibility of its members.
Authorities are expected to take stringent actions against those involved. This case highlights the need for robust measures to prevent cheating in examinations and maintain the integrity of the academic evaluation process. The police are likely to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover any further connections and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The arrest of two AIIMS Rishikesh doctors and three others for allegedly aiding candidates in cheating during a crucial medical entrance exam is a stark reminder of the challenges facing the education system. It underscores the need for vigilant monitoring and strict enforcement of laws to preserve the sanctity of competitive examinations.
