The Odisha government has empowered district collectors to reopen schools in their respective areas based on local weather conditions. This decision aims to ensure the safety and comfort of students amid the intense heat wave gripping the state.
Several districts, including Ganjam, Bhadrak, and Sambalpur, have extended their summer vacation until June 20, considering the extreme temperatures. Meanwhile, other districts are set to resume classes with revised morning timings to mitigate the impact of the heat. Schools will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., a schedule designed to avoid the day's peak heat.
Nabarangpur district has announced extended morning classes until June 22, following the exact revised timings. These changes will be implemented across all schools, from Classes I to XII, to safeguard students' well-being during this period of extreme weather.
The state government's decision underscores the importance of flexibility in response to varying local conditions. "District collectors are best positioned to assess and respond to the specific needs of their regions," said an official from the Directorate of School Education. "This decentralized approach ensures that decisions are made with the most current and relevant information."
