A wave of unrest swept through Hyderabad as students, led by the National Student Union of India (NSUI), staged a protest outside the residence of Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. The demonstrators demanded a re-examination of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Undergraduate (NEET-UG) and called for the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The students allege significant irregularities in the NEET-UG exam, reportedly affecting around 1,500 candidates. They claim that the exam process anomalies have compromised the test's fairness and transparency, which is crucial for students aspiring to enter medical and dental colleges in India. The protestors, frustrated and determined to have their grievances addressed, faced police resistance as they attempted to enter the minister’s residence. Despite being denied entry, the students voiced their concerns loudly.

The protest intensified when a scuffle broke out between the students and the police, resulting in several detentions. This confrontation did not deter the students, who vowed to continue their agitation until their demands were met. The escalating protests have pressured the government to address the controversy and take corrective action regarding the NEET-UG exam.

The NEET-UG exam is a pivotal test for students seeking admission to medical and dental colleges across India. Over the years, allegations of irregularities and administrative failures have plagued the exam, causing widespread discontent among students and parents. The recent claims of irregularities have reignited calls for a re-exam to ensure the process is fair and transparent. The demand for a re-exam reflects a broader need for reform in the administration of the NEET-UG to restore confidence among the candidates and the general public.

The protests in Hyderabad underscore the growing frustration among students regarding the integrity of the NEET-UG exam. The government's and NTA’s response to these demands will be crucial in resolving the current unrest and addressing the underlying issues that have led to a significant outcry. As the agitation continues, it remains to be seen how the authorities will navigate this crisis and what measures will be implemented to safeguard the examination process.

The ongoing protests highlight the urgent need for systemic changes in the conduct of national-level exams to prevent such controversies and ensure a fair opportunity for all aspiring students.
