Schools and junior colleges across Pune district remained closed on Tuesday, July 9th, as heavy rainfall lashed the region. The district administration announced the closure on Monday to ensure student safety during the downpours.
Pune Collector Suhas Diwase issued guidelines to close all schools up to Class XII to prevent untoward incidents or emergencies that could impact students travelling to and from school.
However, the closure order only applies to students. Principals, teachers, and non-teaching staff must report to their respective schools and assist with disaster management efforts coordinated by the local administration.
Mumbai Follows Suit:
Following a similar approach, Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), Panvel, and Navi Mumbai also announced school closures for Tuesday in light of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) red alert for heavy to weighty rainfall in the city.
These closures come as Maharashtra grapples with monsoon rains that have caused heavy downpours in several parts of the state. The IMD's red alert underscores the potential dangers of the weather conditions, prompting authorities to prioritize public safety.
