A group of 10 college students were detained by police on Thursday evening after causing a disturbance on an MTC (Metropolitan Transport Corporation) bus, resulting in significant inconvenience to fellow passengers and a delay in the bus’s journey.

As per edexLive reports, the incident occurred on bus route 21E, which runs from Tambaram to Broadway, one of the busiest routes in Chennai. Eyewitnesses reported that the students were engaging in unruly behaviour, including shouting, whistling, and blocking the aisle, which made it difficult for other passengers to move freely within the bus. The disruption prompted the bus driver and conductor to alert the authorities.

Upon receiving the report, police officers intercepted the bus and detained the students at the Guindy police station. After a brief period in custody, the students were released on bail with a stern warning about their behaviour. Police officials emphasised that repeating such disruptive conduct would have more severe consequences.

This incident has sparked a broader discussion about college students' conduct in public spaces. Many passengers expressed frustration over the students' lack of respect and consideration, urging that they be more mindful of their actions in shared environments.

Authorities have also reminded all students about the importance of behaving responsibly in public, particularly in situations involving the safety and comfort of others. The police have stated that they will not hesitate to take stricter measures against anyone found causing public disturbances in the future.

The incident highlights the ongoing need for awareness and education among young people about the impact of their actions on the community. It is a cautionary tale, underscoring the importance of maintaining decorum and respect in public settings.
