Protests have intensified across India following the murder-rape of a 31-year-old female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Medical professionals and supporters are demanding justice for the deceased and calling for safer work environments. Despite the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud's appeal on August 21 for doctors to return to duty during a case hearing, the protests continue to gain momentum, reflecting deep-seated concerns within the medical community.

In response to the protests, the Kolkata police have taken action against demonstrators, including arrests and issuing notices to doctors accused of spreading "fake news." The West Bengal government also attempted to reshuffle medical faculty members, which sparked further outrage before the notice was eventually withdrawn. These actions have raised concerns about the suppression of peaceful protests and the rights of medical professionals to express their grievances.

Amid these developments, the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) has issued a statement offering full legal assistance to any resident doctor facing intimidation, harassment, or legal notices during their peaceful protests. FORDA's commitment emphasizes its dedication to safeguarding resident doctors' professional and personal rights, particularly their right to protest against grave injustices peacefully. The association's stance serves as a crucial support system for medical professionals advocating for justice and safer working conditions.
