In a swift response to a recent sexual assault attempt on a female patient, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) has introduced mandatory identification wristbands for all inpatients. The new security measure aims to enhance patient safety and prevent unauthorised access within the hospital.

As per edexLive reports, the incident on August 18, 2024, sent shockwaves through the community, prompting immediate action from hospital authorities. The identification wristbands, now compulsory for every inpatient, will display essential information such as the patient’s name, hospital registration number, and ward details. This initiative ensures that only authorised personnel can interact with patients, thereby minimising the risk of unauthorised access.

In addition to the introduction of wristbands, CMCH has significantly bolstered its overall security protocols. The hospital has increased CCTV surveillance across its premises, ensuring continuous monitoring of critical areas. An enhanced police presence and regular security patrols have also been established to deter potential threats.

The hospital administration has lodged a formal police complaint regarding the sexual assault attempt and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. To further safeguard patients, a special committee has been formed to review and strengthen existing security measures, ensuring that such incidents are prevented in the future.

Implementing these measures underscores CMCH’s commitment to patient safety and highlights the need for rigorous security protocols in healthcare settings. The hospital's proactive approach aims to restore trust and confidence among patients and their families, reassuring them that their safety is a top priority.
