The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reported a significant breakthrough following a detailed search of Dr Sandip Ghosh’s residence. Dr Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is at the centre of the ongoing investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a female student that occurred on August 9, 2024.
The search, conducted on August 25, lasted for 11 hours and yielded what the CBI described as “quite a lot” of evidence, according to a report by NDTV. While specific details of the seized materials have not yet been disclosed, the CBI has indicated that the evidence is substantial and will be pivotal in advancing the investigation. The confiscated items include a range of documents, electronic devices, and other materials expected to shed light on the crime and alleged misconduct associated with Dr Ghosh’s tenure.

In addition to the search at Dr. Ghosh’s residence, the CBI plans to extend its investigation to the residence of former medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisth and at least 13 other locations in and around Kolkata. The investigation was initially handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the West Bengal government.
