Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sharply criticised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing the organisation of "damaging" India's education system by promoting a biased ideology.

In a strongly worded statement, Gandhi alleged that the RSS was imposing a narrow, divisive agenda on students, undermining the inclusive and diverse nature of the country’s education framework.

Addressing the issue during a public event, Gandhi expressed concern over the influence of the RSS on education policy, which he claimed has resulted in the promotion of "bigotry" and "narrow-mindedness." According to the Congress leader, the current educational landscape is being distorted by ideological agendas, with the RSS pushing for an education system that aligns with its views rather than fostering an environment that encourages critical thinking and creativity.

As per a Hindustan Times report, Rahul Gandhi argued that the country needs an education system that cultivates curiosity and allows students to think freely without being shaped by ideological biases.

Gandhi’s remarks come at a time when debates over India's New Education Policy (NEP) are intensifying. The policy, introduced by the government to reform various aspects of the education system, has been met with mixed reactions. While some hail the NEP as a progressive move towards modernising education, critics argue that it opens the door for ideological interference, particularly from groups like the RSS. Gandhi pointed to these concerns, emphasising the need for educational reforms prioritising inclusivity over ideological influence.

The Congress leader’s accusations have sparked a fresh political debate about the role of ideology in shaping India’s education system. While some political and educational analysts support Gandhi's call for a more inclusive system, others argue that his comments reflect a broader political battle between the Congress party and the BJP, the ruling party often associated with the RSS.

As of now, the RSS has not officially responded to Gandhi's allegations. However, this controversy is expected to fuel further discourse on the growing intersection of politics and education in India. The debate has also drawn attention to the broader implications of the NEP, with stakeholders from various sectors weighing in on how education should evolve in the country.

With Gandhi’s statements likely to stir more debate in the coming days, the role of the RSS and its influence on education policy will remain a contentious issue. Meanwhile, educators and policymakers are closely watching the developments, as the discourse surrounding the future of India's education system continues to evolve.
