In a unique effort to foster a love for reading among students and teachers alike, a recent initiative dubbed "Drop Everything And Read." has taken local schools by storm. Dona Leonor Memorial High School and Porvorim English Primary School conducted this program, which encouraged every child to indulge in a book of their choice.

For 45 minutes, the usual academic routine was set aside, and students and teachers immersed themselves in the world of words. No textbooks, homework, or distractions were allowed – just the joy of reading. The rules were simple: read, no sleeping, and no electronic devices.

The excitement was palpable as each child received a book to read, carefully selected to spark their imagination. As they delved into their stories, the rooms filled with the sound of turning pages and absorbed silence.

But the experience didn't end there. Students were invited to take their books home to finish their stories, with the promise to return them within two days. This extension of the initiative aimed to blur the lines between school and personal life, making reading an integral part of the lives of students otherwise not exposed to the reading habit.

Teachers, too, were not exempt from the reading mandate, demonstrating their commitment to leading by example. By engaging with literature alongside their students, educators reinforced the importance of reading as a lifelong pursuit.

This innovative approach recognizes that cultivating a love for reading is essential for cognitive development, empathy, and critical thinking. By providing a dedicated space for immersive reading, "READ" helps students develop essential skills and fosters a deeper appreciation for literature.
