A team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) has successfully conquered a previously unnamed and unclimbed peak in the Gorichen range of Arunachal Pradesh. Standing at 6,383 metres (20,942 feet) in the Tawang-West Kameng region, this peak was known for its extreme technical challenges.

The team faced formidable obstacles, including sheer ice walls, hazardous crevasses, and a two-kilometre-long glacier. Despite these difficulties, the NIMAS team reached the summit, naming the peak "Tsangyang Gyatso Peak" in honour of His Holiness the 6th Dalai Lama, Rigzen Tsangyang Gyatso.

By choosing this name, NIMAS pays homage to the Dalai Lama's timeless wisdom and significant contributions to the Monpa community and the world. This tribute underscores the cultural reverence for the Dalai Lama in the region and the symbolic importance of the peak.

The expedition to conquer "Tsangyang Gyatso Peak" stands out as one of the most challenging ever undertaken by the NIMAS team. The climb was marked by rugged terrain and unpredictable weather, demanding resilience and precise teamwork. In overcoming these adversities, the team achieved a momentous victory and etched their place in history.

NIMAS has informed the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) about the successful ascent and the official proposal to name the peak. The necessary formalities are underway to ensure that "Tsangyang Gyatso Peak" is recognized on the official map, securing its place in mountaineering records.

This historic achievement not only celebrates the cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh but also establishes the region as a premier destination for mountaineering and adventure sports. The successful climb is expected to attract adventurers and explorers from around the world, further enhancing the region's global reputation.
