The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced the Apaar ID system, a pioneering initiative designed to create a unified national database of students.

This new system aims to streamline student data management and enhance transparency in the education system, ensuring a more efficient and seamless experience for students, schools, and parents. The state of Assam has taken the lead in adopting the Apaar ID, becoming the first state to implement this groundbreaking initiative, which is set to reshape the educational landscape in India.

The Apaar ID portal is now live, allowing schools to begin registering students from Class 1 to 12. This initiative is expected to benefit more than 44 lakh students across 8,000 CBSE-affiliated schools in India and 26 countries abroad. The system aims to ensure that student data is centralized, enabling smooth transitions for students who move between schools or regions. Each student will be assigned a unique identification number, which will remain with them throughout their academic journey, regardless of any changes in school or state.

The Apaar ID system is part of CBSE's broader effort to modernize education in India, improving the way student information is handled by digitizing records. This will simplify administrative processes for schools, reduce paperwork, and make it easier to track academic progress. The centralized database will also help in preventing duplication of student records and ensure that student information is accurate and up-to-date. Additionally, this system is expected to improve transparency by allowing schools, parents, and students to access information easily through the portal.

Apart from making transitions between schools easier, the Apaar ID system is also expected to facilitate the implementation of various government schemes and scholarships. Plans are underway to integrate the Apaar ID with the National Scholarship Portal, ensuring that students can easily apply for scholarships and other educational benefits without facing bureaucratic hurdles.

The registration process for Apaar ID has begun, and deadlines will vary by state, with Assam’s deadline set for October 31, 2024. Schools are required to ensure that all students are registered within the given time frame. Parents and schools can access the Apaar ID portal for registration and support, as CBSE works toward expanding the system nationwide.

This initiative marks a significant step toward digital transformation in education, aimed at making student data management more efficient and accessible, ultimately improving the overall experience for millions of students across India.
