To uphold decorum within educational institutions, the Bihar government has implemented a new dress code for school teachers, prohibiting denim and t-shirts during work hours. The directive, issued by the education department, underscores the importance of maintaining a professional appearance, with teachers warned of disciplinary actions for non-compliance.
This decision comes in response to concerns over teachers' attire and their increasing presence on social media, mainly through sharing DJ and dance videos. Officials argue that such activities not only tarnish the reputation of schools but also disrupt the academic environment. The notice explicitly states that teachers at government schools are barred from creating social media reels, aiming to refocus their efforts on education.
Residents have expressed support for the government's decision. Shivnandan Singh, a Jamui resident, highlighted ongoing criticism of the Bihar education system and emphasized that the delayed move is a necessary step toward enhancing educational standards. "The choice made by the education department will impact children’s futures by fostering a more conducive learning atmosphere," he stated.
Others, like Siyaram Mandal, praised the initiative, suggesting that the education department should consider implementing school uniforms for teachers that are similar to those worn by students. "It will restore some of the teachers’ dignity and boost their esteem," Mandal remarked, noting that teachers' previous social media habits negatively affected students' learning experiences.
In addition to the dress code, the Bihar government has introduced a policy prioritizing teachers with severe illnesses and disabilities for postings and transfers. Education Minister Sunil Kumar announced that transfer applications will now be processed online. This holistic approach aims to strengthen the educational framework while ensuring teachers can focus on their primary role—educating students.
