To uphold educational quality, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has withdrawn affiliation from 21 schools and downgraded six others across Delhi and Rajasthan.

This decisive action, part of an intensified monitoring effort by CBSE, addresses significant lapses in compliance with the board’s affiliation standards. According to CBSE, these institutions were found deficient in critical areas such as infrastructure, faculty adequacy, and transparency, with some schools reportedly misrepresenting crucial information required for affiliation.

The impacted schools include 21 that have lost their CBSE affiliation, meaning they can no longer operate under the CBSE board. Additionally, six schools — four in Delhi and two in Rajasthan — have been downgraded. These downgraded schools will now function under state-level recognition. This status may affect the standards of education offered, as CBSE's guidelines for affiliated institutions are often more rigorous than those at the state level. The action highlights CBSE's commitment to enforcing quality assurance across its network of schools.

This move may lead to significant challenges for students in the affected institutions. Students from schools that lost CBSE affiliation could encounter difficulties securing admissions to other CBSE-affiliated schools and may face complications in taking board exams, a requirement for specific higher education paths. For students in downgraded schools, the shift to state recognition might bring changes in curriculum or other adjustments that could impact the learning experience and preparation for CBSE-specific exams or standards.

In its statement, CBSE emphasised its dedication to maintaining high educational standards, assuring that this measure is in the best interests of students and the broader educational landscape.

To assist parents and students, CBSE advises verifying the affiliation status of schools before making enrollment decisions. This can be quickly done through the official CBSE website, which provides updates on school compliance. This latest development serves as a reminder of CBSE’s commitment to quality education and its proactive stance on addressing non-compliance. For students and families affected by these changes, staying informed and seeking guidance on the next steps will be essential as they navigate the implications of these significant updates in the educational sector.
